I've been away from GW for about 6 months. Now I'm back and I was thinking about playing some HA again, but I'm not sure if it's worthwhile to invest time and effort into learning new builds etc. First thing I noticed was that there are relativly few players and nearly noone advertising for groups, so that wasn't exactly hopefull.
Some questions:
- Is HA still infested with fotm-builds?
- Is pugging (r6+) worthwhile?
- What do you advice me to play to get back into HA with relative ease?
- Most of the time I played monk in balanced. Is the gamestyle regarding monk and balanced more or less still the same prior to 6v6?
- Although I'm not a famefarmer, is getting fame still relativly easy? (assuming I expanded my friendslist again since all my pvpfriends have left the game)
pugging is disappointing, because 90% of r6 people got their fame during double fame weekends using variants of iway/ritspike, so you get people who ask "whats NR?" or ping you an RC bar with glyph of lesser on it
spiritway is pretty easy to beat IMO, and heroway still remains powerful/abuseable. I don't know how well a R6 pugged balance team will do, but I'd bet it loses to an R4/5 heroway team 80% of the time, unless it's cap points in which case heroway usually fails.

basically all you need to know right there, but 3/4 are 1v1 in HoH :P
People in HA are very rigid. They only know to play meta and that's it.
You ask a warrior to come evis and he tell you I know only steady. You ask for an ele something other than SH and he does not have the skills nor does he have faction to buy them.
Current meta is heroway.
Lots of thumpers N/Rt and Steady W from time to time.
I've also see ranger and necro spike.
Any half decent balance team can wipe them easily. Only it is hard to PUG a half decent team.
GL.
Yes... 1, and it involves Olias and Master of Whispers
- Is pugging (r6+) worthwhile?
No , Not even R9 pugs are worthwhile anymore that is if you can even find enough people to start one
- What do you advice me to play to get back into HA with relative ease?
Well if you just want to join a group then go thumper You being R6 in all there is no other option. (you will quit in a week)

No. Before there was such a thing called tactics and play style. Now its just "train him ping ping ping, now train him ping, ping, ping" etc etc

Yes and No, IF you get people that dont fail you can run balance and win easily most times, but.... and i think I speak for most X-HAer's here when i say "ITS DAMN BORING" HA sucks no creativity anymore no GG , GL , HF , Its all about the people that want to rank up fast so they can get into .... O wait there arent any "good" high rank groups anymore they all quit. Nope Gvgers cant be fooled either they know HA produces Trash nowadays.
By coinsidence some of my old friends returned to the game yesterday as well and we played some HA. Things have indeed changed for the worse.
The reason I wrote r6+ was because in the good old days, those teams were equally as good (and sometimes better) as r9+ groups.
I'm 800 fame away from r9 atm. By the looks of it, probably I won't be getting it anytime soon. I don't want to sacrifice gamepleasure for the sake of ranking up.
But IMO we players are also partly responsible for the current situation. I remember the times when iway and bspike were flamed to death, eventually resulting in Anet nerfing them. But after the nerf of those builds (and after 6v6) the whole of HA went downhill. As far as I know, iwayers and many bspikers left HA and never returned, leaving HA virtually empty. This caused the expierenced balancedplayers to leave as well, resulting in what we see today. No system is perfect but the classic form of iwayers, spikers, smiters and balanced was still the best way IMO. At least we all had something to chose from and everyone knew there role in the build they were playing, making every build more or less challinging to fight against (those who fought against highranked iwayteams know what I'm talking about).
Let us, old hardcore HA-players, get back and change the metagame! (wishfull thinking, I know)
The current Metagame of Heroes Ascent is either spiritway, heroway or toxic shock assassin spike, the only reason people have a problem with it and call it lame is because they lose to it..imo. They are still builds and easy enough to beat if you have a half decent team so..
(Heroes Ascent is and has been broken for awhile now, only reason to stick around is for a shiny emote imo)

There are many more reasons than that for people leaving HA, or PvP in general. The new wave of PvPers are all scrubs who think grinding a high ranked title is more important than player skill, which leaves us with the current HA situation right now. Even the champion title was tainted by scrub guilds like eE, Meow, PvE, etc. who play ritspike or paraspike to farm the points quickly with skill-less builds.
8 man spike teams (IV spikes, Blood Spikes and its variations, ext) are out of date(honestly who loses to taht anymore). Iway can still be run, but the new A/W fear me way seems to be more popular. Balance teams? Legoway is the official HA balance teams(for balance to be run in HA it must be a fotm build that players can PUG, and not just something Guilds play when they feel like Ha'ing)...the game pretty much revolves around 5 builds but generally HA has no players to play them since the population droped off the map.
Fotm builds that allow players the ability to PUG this game have always existed, but never the less the game suffers because players leaving>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> new players coming in. Fact of life.

I'm sure you know the answer to the first question, but yes it is Buildings change, people don't.
Don't know about r6 but I tried some r8 pugs and they seemed better than some r9 pugs, simply because they were so desperate to win.
Whatever you played last time, something similar. Play monk. It's similar, monking is monking...
Fame is easy with good people. Getting good people is hard .
Hmm, it's not absolutely terrible in the international districts, but I still am overcome with dissapointment that it's nothing like when Guild Wars came out. I remember districts going up to 11 on slow days... Heck random arenas (competition arenas then) had 60+ districts normally. SIXTY +!!!. Now what? 5 districts at most?
I don't blame anything but the gradual decay and exhaust of the game. Hopefully Guild Wars 2 will bring us back to those times. Hopefully...

HA has been like this since the beginning. It's fun to see the meta changes. Skill balance/nerf always trigger the meta.
I did pugged with guild that has couple r5-r6 and constantly winning halls when they HA. The thing is they GVG a lot. They know exactly what they're doing even they're pretty low rank compare to those r10+. It's usually the quality of the player. Rank is just a deceiving hard fact to show people how much time you spent on playing HA. Some people might have only played 8000 battles and only won 4000. Some people might have played 5000 and won 4000. There's no way or even impossible to know your winning ratio with your team or guild in HA. That's why most of the ppl just wanna farm fame to get to whatever rank they want. Use the same build and go farm! Even people use balanced to farm rank not only spiritway

Unerf all skills, then we will have all 15 fotm builds together, iway with 4 w/r's 2 trapper's and a n/e n/mo would absolutely destroy sway............
